Staunton City school system has an enrollment of about 2,600 students. The system is comprised of four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school.

The student/teacher ratio is 19 to 1 in the elementary schools and 17 to 1 in the middle and high schools. The 2007-2008 budget was $29.1 million, with per pupil spending of $10,369.
The Staunton City School System is also part of several regional programs including the Shenandoah Valley Governor's School and Valley Vocational Technical Center.
With continued effort to offer quality education, Staunton was one of the few school divisions in Virginia to meet all federal and state testing benchmarks at each of the six schools in 2007-2008. The drop out rate for Staunton City schools for the 2007-2008 school year was 1.25% Of those graduating, 49% earned an advanced studies diploma, 33% went to a four-year college or university, and 23% went to a two-year college.

Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind is located on East Beverly Street in Staunton. Established by an act of the General Assembly in 1938, it serves students with vision and hearing impairments in a residential environment.
