Augusta County school system has an enrollment of about 11,000 students. The system is comprised of twelve elementary schools, four middle schools and five high schools.

The student/teacher ratio is 18 to 1 in the elementary schools, 22 to 1 in the middle schools and 19 to 1 in the core subject areas for the high schools.  The 2007-2008 budget was $98.3 million, with per pupil spending of $9.178.

The Augusta County School System is also part of several regional programs including the Shenandoah Valley Governor's School and Valley Vocational Technical Center.

The Augusta County Schools generally perform well on state and federal testing.  The Virginia Department of Education provides information for all schools online at www.doe.virginia.gov.

The drop out rate for Augusta County schools for the 2006-2007 school year was 2.4%  Of those graduating, 51% earned an advanced studies diploma, 31% went to a four-year college or university, and 28% went to a two-year college.

Augusta County is also home to a variety of private schools offering specialized programs to meet the needs of the community.  The following is a partial listing of the private schools available within the county.
